Overview

HelpYap ("we", "us", "our") operates the helpyap.com website and the HelpYap AI customer support platform. This policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.

Information We Collect

Account information: When you sign up, we collect your email address and password (hashed). If you use OAuth (e.g., Google), we receive your name and email from the provider.

Project data: Knowledge base documents you upload, project configuration, team member information, and canned responses you create.

Conversation data: Messages exchanged between your end-users and the HelpYap AI widget, including any messages sent by your team via the dashboard or Slack.

Usage data: We collect basic analytics such as page views and feature usage to improve the product. We do not sell this data.

How We Use Your Data

  • To provide the HelpYap AI support service — answering your end-users' questions using your uploaded knowledge base
  • To deliver notifications via Slack and email when conversations are escalated
  • To display conversation history and analytics in your admin dashboard
  • To improve the product and fix bugs

AI Processing

Conversations are processed by AI models hosted on AWS Bedrock (Anthropic Claude). Your knowledge base content and conversation messages are sent to the AI model to generate responses. We do not use your data to train AI models. AWS Bedrock's data processing terms apply.

Data Storage

Your data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL) with row-level security. Files and documents are stored securely. We use HTTPS for all data transmission.

  • Supabase — Database and authentication
  • AWS Bedrock — AI model inference
  • AWS SES — Email notifications
  • Slack — Two-way messaging integration (only if you connect it)
  • Vercel — Hosting and deployment

Your End-Users

When your customers use the HelpYap widget on your site, we store their conversation messages and a session identifier (stored in their browser's localStorage). We do not collect personal information from your end-users unless they voluntarily provide it in the chat (e.g., their email address). You are responsible for informing your end-users about the use of an AI chat widget on your site.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Conversations are retained until you delete them or close your account. You can request deletion of all your data by contacting us.

Your Rights

  • Access your data via the admin dashboard
  • Export your conversation data
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Opt out of non-essential communications

Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication (Supabase auth session). The HelpYap widget uses localStorage (not cookies) to maintain chat sessions. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product evolves. We'll notify registered users of significant changes via email.
